Asher in undies

Started the potty training process last Thursday.  Since day 1, have progressed from all-out refusal tantrums, heavy bribery and basically nonstop accidents to today a trip to the city for church and back with only one change of undies (and they weren't wet :} and a VERY proud of himself little boy who now joyfully runs to us and says he has to go potty!!  WHAT A CHANGE!!  I was committed, but knew it was going to be a serious uphill battle with Asher and that it might not happen quickly.  Well, Thursday and Friday nearly knocked me out.  I was so exhausted!!  It was a huge mental wrestling match all day each day, and there are two other kids to care for around here.  But we made it.

Now we just have to deal with the #2 problem.  That part of the training is not so far along.  But with the success we now have under our belts, I think he will step up to the plate soon enough.  With a little help from a teaspoon of miralax a day, which will commence tomorrow  ;)

Now, I ask myself, WHAT HAVE I DONE???  This makes getting out and about considerably more difficult with a newly trained guy.  Let's face it, even with him coming and telling me that he needs to go, it is necessary to keep an eye on the clock to avoid the inevitable accidents for the next couple months.  Well, it had to happen sometime, and I could tell that even though he acted like he didn't want any part of being trained, he was secretly wanting to be out of diapers.

Aaaaah.  A fruitful weekend :)  Not to mention, Reuel is replacing our storm door as I type!  The old one was hanging half of the hinge for the last 6 months, so this will be a wonderful update!

Pic:  Asher with his 'snake cake'.  This was his request (demand?) in exchange for his first (and so far only) #2 on the potty.  We ran to the store and back for premade cake and a can of frosting which I fashioned into a form of a snake (good enough for a 2 year old anyway!).  He was THRILLED!!!  He has also been promised a new puzzle, but that award awaits another success.  Kids these days (or should I say:  parents these days).  How were children potty trained in the great depression?  :}

Maybe before they could talk and make demands? But three days is awfully fast. Yay!

See now, that's the thing. Every one I've observed who's tried the much earlier potty training ends up having a lot more accidents, taking a lot longer to get it really established, and by the time they do, the child is the age where if they'd just waited til that point, it takes a few days and then they get it right away. So, I just chose to wait rather than the headaches leading up. But hey, we all are blind and groping the dark in this parenting most of the time aren't we?! I tried earlier with Owen and it was a disaster. Who knows.

Great snake cake! I wouldn't be able to eat a bite (looks too much like a worm!) Bet the rest of this goes super fast, too, though...it was evident in January that he *knew* #2 :}. Congratulations to you both! Now, what would Mommy like to have as a reward??

Amy, I totally agree with your comment above. We started Noah too early, and it ended up taking over a year. This go 'round, I am content to change diapers for several more months in exchange for a better experience for all!
