New Tooth
We have the first occurrence of an adult tooth coming in amongst us! However, the baby tooth has not been lost :} Owen told me last night at bedtime, "What is this sharp thing in my mouth? Last week it wasn't so sharp and it was hurting and this week now it's really hard and sharp. Is it a wart?" Well, that was puzzling. Lo, and behold, there is a tooth way behind his baby tooth. His baby tooth is quite loose, and we've known that, but he steadfastly refuses to want to lose it :} So, he has a case of shark teeth (http://www.oralanswers.com/2010/10/adult-permanent-teeth-coming-in-behind-baby-teeth-shark-teeth/). Who knew? Apparently it usually takes care of itself. We are working on wiggling that baby tooth on out. I sewed him a tooth fairy pouch just to generate a little excitement :)

Hannah has the same thing. At first, she didn't want to wiggle her loose teeth because she claimed it hurt. I was a little worried, but at her normal dentist check up the dentist was not concerned at all. They took x-rays and confirmed all the roots were gone from both wiggly teeth and they're just hanging on by a thread. At the appointment, the hygienist ran a q-tip along the base of the loosest tooth and it came right out. Hannah felt nothing and didn't believe it had come out. Dentist told us that the tongue will naturally push the two adult teeth forward when the baby teeth come out and it is nothing to be concerned about. We'll see if her second loose tooth ever comes out! She will wiggle it now but not with a whole lot of force. I have vivid memories of pulling mine out right before PE class, so that I could get out of running - of all things, right?
Meredith had the same thing too, just this year with her last baby tooth! Except she had fang teeth that came in above the baby teeth. Dentist pulled one out before braces last spring, which after a few months they finally put on the fangs and used that to push out the last baby tooth, which first was pushed back and dangled for a while from the roof of her mouth before coming in.
Kiel didn't want to wiggle his first loose tooth, and Meredith obliged by kicking it out...
